Our client a growing and extremely successful Bank is seeking a for a Financial Crime specialist to join the UK Financial Crime team to support the Bank's business strategy and objectives. The main focus of the role will be to support the financial crime risk assessment process of the growing and ambitious niche sectors of innovation.
The Bank works with companies supporting their transition from early stage Series A funding rounds through to a possible IPO. In this fast-moving sector, the UK Financial Crime team works closely with relationship managers to support business growth and to bring innovative financial compliant risk solutions across the Bank's platform. As a result of business growth, the UK Financial Crime team is seeking an experienced Financial Crime Associate with previous experience in diverse and sometimes high-risk markets/industries/products to assist with driving the business forward.
The successful candidate will be responsible for assisting with the implementation and embedding the financial crime framework to support the business and ensuring the firm is compliant and protected from financial crime risks.
They will be required to prioritize and work independently whilst working as a member of a small team. The role holder will report directly to the Senior Manager, UK Financial Crime.
Primary responsibilities will include:
- Providing guidance and direction to the business to ensure they remain protected from financial crime risks.
- Building strong relationships through effective influencing and decision-making skills
- Performing high risk complex business model reviews, sanctioned/high risk country reviews, due diligence reviews, financial crime investigations
- Providing support and guidance to business partners on a day to day basis.
- Managing a diverse workload in relation to financial crime
- Supporting change in the right way and recommending enhancements to processes and procedures to ensure the firm remains compliant whilst aligning to a risk-based approach.
- Working on confidential and sensitive matters, exercising good judgement in the execution of their role and putting the needs of the business first.
- Reviewing exception requests to policy
- Reviewing and responding to financial crime related queries from the first line
- Supporting the delivery of training to colleagues and embedding an effective risk culture across 1st and 2nd lines of defence
Success within the role will ensure that both the Bank and Group comply with all applicable regulations and guidelines in relation to financial crime. The role holder will also be expected to "cast the right shadow" across the wider business, including the various Bank's financial crime teams globally.
- Support and assist the Senior Manager (UK Financial Crime) in driving the business forward to the next level i.e. enabling the business to support different/niche sectors of innovation
- Acting as a subject matter expert and representative of the Bank in relation to financial crime matters
- Setting a tone and fostering a culture which rewards doing things the right way, in accordance with all applicable laws and regulations and any policies, procedures or processes that The Bank puts in place to meet these
- Develop/review (existing and new) UK/EMEA procedures and processes relating to financial crime and financial crime risk assessment frameworks
- Maintaining current industry awareness and demonstrating awareness and competence in relation to regulatory obligations
- Escalation of issues in a timely manner for review and resolution in relation to financial crime
- A degree or equivalent and relevant work experience is required with strong analytical skills
- Strong knowledge of financial crime legislation including Fraud, Anti-Bribery and Corruption, Anti-Money Laundering, Sanctions and Counter Terrorist Financing and Tax, under the Criminal Finances Act
- Good understanding of a wide range of high-risk sectors and niche sectors of innovation
- Knowledge of key financial crime regulatory frameworks impacting complex business models
- Strong judgement and critical thinking skills
- Adaptable, flexible able to support and develop other team members
- Excellent verbal, written and interpersonal skills
- The ability to work independently and as part of a small team, and challenge effectively
