Job Summary
Our respected client is looking for a top-quality Database Administrator to implement and optimize the computerized database systems that support the company's or client's ability to function on a daily basis. The job is in Makati City, Philippines, with a work-from-home setup, but their office is open for those who want to work in the office.

Key job responsibilities:

Software Development

  • Conducts performance tuning of indexes and databases in general.
  • Reviews database design and integration of systems.
  • Provides backup recovery and makes recommendations regarding enhancements and/or improvements.
  • Provides insight into best practices and configuration tuning.
  • Maintains security and integrity controls.
  • Formulates policies, procedures, and standards relating to database management, and monitors transaction activity and utilization.
  • Develops, maintains and fine tune stored procedures, triggers, functions, views and indexes.
  • Administers PostgreSQL Database Management System.
  • Develops and enforces database administration and user standards and procedures.
  • Audits, modifies, and amends data in systems using SQL commands.
  • Oversees the scheduling of database projects, database and transaction log backups, notifications, and database replication.
  • Reviews technical designs, reports, documentation, and other materials produced by team members.
  • Troubleshoots and resolve database performance issues including blocking queries.
  • Researches and implements new database and online technology.
  • Coordinate with developers and analysts on business requirements to implement efficient database scripts for enhancements.
  • Support multiple development and QA environments as well as potential customer production databases.
  • Ad-hoc backups and restores.
  • Prepares accomplishment report for documentation and manager monitoring.
  • Assists the Development Manager, as necessary.

Key job requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree of any four (4) year computer-related course
  • With at least eight (8) years of practical experience within the DBA role
  • If with Master's degree, at least six (6) years' applicable experience
  • With at least five (5) years in database administration in PostgreSQL.
  • Advanced experience in performance tuning configurations and queries for large data loads
  • Advanced experience in writing and maintaining complex queries, views, functions, and procedures in PL/pgSQL.
  • Experience working in cloud environments (AWS) as well as on-prem.
  • Experience in scaling databases
  • Experience with GIT
  • Distributed data experience (Citus, etc) is a plus
  • Experience with Spark is a plus
  • System administration experience is a plus
  • Data lake/data warehouse experience is a plus
  • Shell scripting proficiency is a plus
  • Experience creating/maintaining pgtap test suites is a plus

Technical Skills:

  • Advanced knowledge of database management systems and standards
  • Advanced knowledge of database administration in PostgreSQL
  • Advanced knowledge of SQL coding and debugging
  • Advanced knowledge of database design principles, query optimization, index management, integrity checks, statistics and isolation levels
