Executive recruitment company Monroe Consulting Group Malaysia's Industrial Division is recruiting on behalf of a global leader within the chemical industry. Our highly respected client is seeking a Tax Specialist, with at least 4 year's experience. The job is based in Kuala Lumpur.

Job summary
The ideal candidate will be in charge of preparing Direct and Indirect tax workings and maintaining documentation for compliances along with In Country Finance (ICF). He or she will be responsible for Tax & Legal Compliance for accurate and timely payment of taxes, Tax filings, for requisite representations to tax related regulatory authorities of Region Support to build systems and processes relating to Direct, Transfer Pricing & Indirect Tax.

Key job responsibilities include:

  • Prepare all tax returns (Corporate, GST, deferred, withholding, VAT, DST) and post all tax entries and reconciliations to accounts along with ICF.
  • Responsible to follow up of all tax refunds including GST along with ICF.
  • Responsible to make sure for compliance with corporate income tax withholding rules on cross-border payments.
  • Responsible to aid with transfer pricing matters and provide guidance on intercompany transactions.
  • Responsible to prepare the relevant information and write up for replies to local tax authority and support ICF.
  • Provide assistance to tax audits to ICF.

Month-end / Year end duties

  • Preparation and review of monthly, quarterly, year-end provisions in accordance with Group Guidelines, Internal Control System (ICS) framework
  • Prepare and maintain, Contingent liabilities, Deferred Tax Asset (DTA) / Deferred Tax Liability (DTL) workings.
  • Prepare Tax schedules for Auditors, local tax authorities, etc. along with ICF.
  • Ensures provisions, Group charges and documents are maintained for Transfer Pricing.
  • Preparations and review of quarterly tax estimate to be paid.
  • Maintain proper tax database relating to carry forward balances and ensure proper movements in Tax codes of Balance sheet and ensures 3-way checks.

Business Partnering

  • Coordination with other functions for purpose of optimizing tax outflow and tax implications.
  • Supports all functions for Capex decisions and Permanent Establishment (PE) aspects.
  • Evaluate Tax benefits for businesses and prepare tax benefit proposals for Stakeholders.

Audit and other Governance

  • To assist in preparation of tax audit & annual statutory audit and working with auditors, consultants, Shared Service centre team etc., for timely and accurate financial close and audits.
  • Ensures tax tasks performed are within framework of Corporate Policies, Authority Matrix, and Internal Control System (ICS) of the Company.
  • To coordinate and follow-up with auditors for timely audit.
  • Supports ICF for Registrar of Companies;
  • Support Tax Manager for representations relating to tax litigations.
  • Work with internal and external auditors during financial and operational audit.
  • Maintain appropriate documentation for audit purposes.

Key Job requirements include:

  • Bachelor's degree in Finance or Economics or Accounting ACCA/CPA/CA/CIMA
  • At least 4-8 years of working experience, preferably from MNCs background and/or Big4 firms
  • Proven track record to manage finance processes, workflows. Attention to detail and high level of accuracy. Ability to connect dots.
  • Ability to work in a team environment.
  • SAP experience.
  • Ability to work under pressure.
  • Good communication, Leadership, and organizational skills.
  • Good IT skills with computer spreadsheets, software, and automated accounting systems.
  • Prior Business Partnering skills and prior working experience in Tax practice in Big4 firm will be an added advantage.
  • Proven track record to manage both Direct and Indirect Tax compliance.
  • Highly autonomous person with analytical and joined-up thinking.
  • Fluent in English language in both oral and written.
